Becoming a Staff Writer for the Emerald Office Journal

The Emerald Office Journal collaborates with a small number of talented writers and experts who regularly write for us. “Staff writers” each select a “beat” from the core themes of The Emerald Office Mission and write regularly (monthly or weekly) on that topic. They also attend monthly editorial meetings where they pitch articles ideas and collaborate with other members of the team. Staff writers are highly encouraged to participate in the Medium Partner Program so that they may get paid for their work. If you wish to explore becoming a staff writer please email editor@theemeraldoffice.com

If added to our writing team, article writing and submission works the same as listed above. You will be added to the publication’s list of writers and can submit articles at your leisure. They will be accepted/published in accordance with our content calendar.

Article Guidelines

All articles guest or staff writer should follow the below guidelines:

  • Between 500 and 1500 words
  • Dynamically formatted; perhaps containing photos (appropriately sourced/attributed), bullets, headings, etc for ease of reading and visual interest
  • We do allow you to mention products in your article. However, posts containing products will be held to a high standard. The substance of the article needs to stand without the products. The article cannot be simply a sales page for a product (yours or someone else's). Proof that you have tested or researched the product well should be included where applicable.
  • In keeping with the Philosophy and Mission of The Emerald Office
  • Submissions should be useful to the reader. Actionable content is our aim so be sure that there are action steps, calls to take action or make a change, or concrete education that is happening as a result of reading your piece.
